Selling our house has added another dimension to the chaos of the recent weeks. The other day I was home alone with both boys (doesn't happen very much yet) and saw a car sitting out in front of the house. I was in the middle of changing Grayson's diaper and Jackson was cranky because dinner time was quickly approaching. The driver of the car was on the phone...I knew immediately that it was a realtor calling to see the house. I panicked. The phone rang and they wanted to see the house in 10 minutes. Yeah right. There were toys everywhere, dirty diapers, beds not made, etc... I asked for 20. I tried to occupy Jackson with crackers and Grayson was screaming in his swing while I hurriedly swept the floor, took the trash out, and made sure the toilets were flushed.
SO, as I loaded Jackson into the van I gave him my keys to play with - he likes to push the buttons and make the horn beep (when the doors lock). It's pretty hot here so I grabbed the other set of keys and turned on the van while I finished getting them into the car. I shut the doors on Jackson's side, grabbed Grayson (who was still screaming) and went to the other side of the car. The horn beeped. Jackson had pressed the lock button on the keys and locked himself in the car. Remember, the other set was in the ignition, along with my cell phone. I had no way of getting in. But, thank goodness we have such a smart son :) I went to his window and told him to push the button over and over. He pushed the lock button a few times and then he pushed the unlock. All I could think about was the realtor was going to show up and my son is locked in the car, with the car running, my other son is screaming and I was going to have to use her cell phone to call the police to come and unlock the doors.
I thought it was just coincidence that Jackson was able to press the button but I am realizing that he probably really understood what needed to happen. Today I asked him to get Grayson's paci out of the swing for me and he stopped what he was doing and grabbed all 3 - he's a genius!! :)
